Light & Sound from Art Glasswork

ilLUsion chandelier by Fabio Fornasier is a unique work of art and design that can be admired, listened to, and illuminated. It is a wonderful illuminating and good sounding work, even though conventional knowledge suggests that blown glass is not a common material for building loudspeakers.
Fornasier had to learn everything from scratch, from the suitable vibration and resonance to the frequencies and sound pressure. The road towards this first creation was extremely demanding and lasted a year. It could not revolutionize the design of the chandelier, but it did require the integration of loudspeakers capable of giving a linear response on all audible frequencies.
Cones made of Kevlar, acoustic paper, and fiberglass were tested, and the fiberglass cones were ultimately chosen. Numerous crossover filters were tested and modified to find the right crossover frequencies between the midwoofer and tweeter loudspeakers. Alterations to the thickness and shape of the blown glass made it possible to obtain a stable system free of perceivable resonance.
Fabio Fornasier’s creativity has allowed him to create a unique and captivating work that is unlike anything ever seen before. It is a synergistic expression of beauty, purity of sound, design, and art.
