This mixed-media installation comprises polychrome blown glass bubbles in various sizes and finishes, set against a backdrop of independent iron plates connected by an interlocking system.
Rather than electric light, this alternative illuminating glass artwork harnesses natural light filtering through the structure’s rear. It exemplifies Maestro Fornasier’s continuous experimentation and tireless research on light. From the front, the polychrome blown glass bubbles glow and shimmer, suffused by sunlight against the dark metal background. This effect evokes the ambience of light filtering through Gothic cathedral stained glass, yet the elemental, minimalist forms feel distinctly modern – almost pulses of color and cybernetic data.
Viewed side-on, the colorful volumes projecting from the flat wall mesmerize and seduce the surrounding space. Once again, with his signature sensitivity to light experiments, Fabio Fornasier gathers diverse inspirations and fashions them into a novel, startling creation.
Bolle di MetalLU debuted at the Murano Glass Museum in 2016 and the Milan Furniture Fair in 2019.
