The “Murano Sottovuoto” chandelier, “Vacuum Wrapped Murano” concept, stemmed from dismay at seeing entirely handcrafted, complexly executed Murano glassware sold for just a few tens of euros.
Fabio Fornasier sought to restore the deserved value to this same blown glass by decontextualizing its intended purpose, remelting it into delicate, lifeless forms, then preserving the unique shapes and minute imperfections under vacuum. The chandelier becomes an ode to centuries of glass blowing tradition, spotlighting refined artistry from a novel, compressed perspective, just as Murano itself and the glassmaking craft suffer under countless woes and systemic fragility.
By vacuuming and indefinitely preserving blown glass art, Fabio Fornasier makes a declaration of absolute devotion. His chandelier is a hyper contemporary design object born from ancestral wisdom.
