LU Murano presents ilLUsion chandelier design

Posted on

For the contemporary art week in Venice, LU Murano presents ilLUsion, a work by Fabio Fornasier

Tuesday 28 May 2013. LU Murano presents ilLUsion for the first time, in the context of the inauguration events of the 55th Venice Biennale.

Chandelier design ilLUsion is a surprise. Magic in a blown glass chandelier on Murano. If LU Murano thrills us with its design and light, ilLUsion heightens our sensory enjoyment of an environment.

ilLUsion is a work between art and design, a site-specific installation inside the fifteenth century Zorzi-Liassidi palace, where the light is diffused and conducts a dialogue with the spaces of a Venetian salon while other senses are brought into the experience as well.

Fabio Fornasier is a designer and master glassmaker who turns out works of top quality and high artistic value in his studio on the island of Murano. Research and design, experimentation and contemporaneity: LU Murano is a lighting project that innovates Murano design in terms of materials and production techniques, while remaining loyal to the blown glass chandelier tradition with an innovative conception of lighting design.

IlLUsion is presented to the press at the Liassidi Palace Hotel at 12 noon on 28 May. Two performances after 6 p.m. will give the public the chance to enjoy a sensory experience of glass and harmony.

The work will remain on display until 25 october 2013.

The Liassìdi Palace is a 4-star hotel in the fifteenth century Palazzo Zorzi-Liassidi, near St Mark’s Square, by the Greek Orthodox Church of San Giorgio dei Greci. Liassidi is the name of the Cypriot owners of the building. In 1436 it was bought by the Zorzi-Cornier, an important Venetian Republic family, of which Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus, was a member. A feature of the hotel is its vocation for art, a passion of the owners, who, during the last five years, have made Palazzo Zorzi-Liassidi a place for Italian and foreign artists to meet and develop their talents.
